The following steps should be taken to participate in the IAQ Certification Scheme. The whole certification process takes around 3 to 6 months and is usually shorter for application renewals.

Owner/management of premises/building to engage an IAQ Certificate Issuing Body (CIB) approved by Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS)
Approved IAQ Signatory of the CIB to carry out a walkthrough inspection to check if the premises/building have any IAQ problem
Owner/management of the premises/building to rectify the IAQ problems, if any, with the assistance/advice from the CIB
CIB to conduct IAQ measurement (sampling, etc.) and assessment
Approved IAQ Signatory of the CIB to certify the premises/building in compliance with the IAQ Objectives and issue an electronic certificate
CIB to submit the following documents to the IAQ Information Centre through designated online system on behalf of the owner/management of the premises/building:
  • electronic copy of the application form
  • electronic certificate issued by the CIB
  • electronic copy of the certification report
IAQ Information Centre to return the electronic certificate to owner/management of the premises/building with a registration number and also provide physical IAQ labels for display in a prominent location for the public information.
Owner/management of the premises/building to manage post-certification IAQ.
Owner/management of the premises/building to initiate annual re-certification.
